Strategy to check malaria and Kalazar in Eastern and NE region
Dumka, Feb 17 (UNI) The Union Health Ministry has chalked out preventive measures against spread of Malaria and Kalazar in Jharkhand, Bihar and other north-eastern states, state Malaria Control Officer A K Upadhaya said here today.
Mr Upadhay said in the first phase DDT would be sprayed in these states from April 2 and it would be repeated for three days in these areas in second phase.
Dumka, Sahebganj, Godda and Pakur of Santhal Pargana was worst hit by Kalazar and malaria, he said adding that at least seven people in Godda, three in Sahebganj and one in Dumka died of these diseases during last year. At least 7000 people had been identified as Kalazar patients in the area, he stated.
The number of Malaria patients in the region was also alarmingly high. About 10,000 person in Dumka, 2800 in Pakur, 7000 in Godda and 2400 in Sahebganj were affected by the diesease, he said.
