Maharashtra to purchase 100 MW power from Haryana

Mumbai, Feb 17 (UNI) Maharashtra, which is facing a power shortage of nearly 5500 MW, will purchase 100 MW power from Haryana, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation managing director Ajaybhushan Pande said here today.

Talking to reporters, Mr Pande said Maharashtra will restore back the power to Haryana in July.

Mr Pande claimed that within three months the power situation in the state will improve since 2000 MW power will become available from Dabhol, Parli and Paras projects. He said Dabhol project will generate 1400 MW while Parli and Paras projects will be able to generate 250 MW each. This will help in reducing the load shedding, he added.

Mr Pande said there was 19.9 TMC water available in the Koyna dam which is sufficient to carry on power generation for 200 days.

Besides, around 500 MW of power generation is expected to be taken up through captive power projects. Bids for the same have been issued and will be opened on February 20, he said.

He said the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has been informed that the extra expenditure for providing power to the cusotmers will have be passed on to the consumers or else the load shedding will have to be continued.
