Lankan navy fire at Indian fishermen

Pudukkottai, Feb 17 (UNI) Sri Lankan Navy personnel attacked two Indian fishermen who suffered bleeding injuries and damaged two country made motor boats at midsea offshore Ayyampattinam fishermen hamlet in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu late last night.

Official sources said eight fishermen of the hamlet had ventured into the sea on Thursday last in four country made motor boats. When they were returning to the shore, they were intercepted by the Sri Lankan navy, which damaged two of the boats and fishing nets, seized the their catch and other personal belongings, and warned them off.

The fishermen later towed the damaged boats along with other boats and reached the shore this morning. They lodged a complaint with the local police and the fisheries department, the sources said.
