JD (U) to hold anti-price rise rally on Feb 21
New Delhi, Feb 17: The Janata Dal (United) today decided to hold an anti-price rise rally here on February 21 under the leadership of party President Sharad Yadav.
The rally would correlate the current spate of runaway price rise in essential commodities with the entry of the multinational companies in the country's domestic retail trade in a big way, party sources said.
It would also highlight the reasons behind the party's mainopposition to the granting of permission for the setting up of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in the country which had already adversely affected the land availability for agriclture.
The party was of the view that it had resulted in a sharp decline in the production of agricultural crops resulting in the prsent price hike in the essential commodities, sources said.
The party felt that as a result the country which used to be a net exporter of primary agricultural products would soon depend upon imports to feed the fellow countrymen.
Through the rally the party would build up public pressure on the Government for the scrapping of the SEZ schemes, the sources added.
