Gandhian Aruna Desai passes away

Surendranagar, Gujarat, Feb 17 (UNI) Noted Gandhian Arunaben Desai passed away here late last night. She was 83.

Sources said Ms Desai complained of respiratory problems and was rushed to a civil hospital here, where she later died.

Ms Desai, a women and children welfare activist, was the local MLA between 1962-67.

Her death was condoled by Gujarat Governor Naval Kishore Sharma and Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

During her over six decade long social life, Ms Desai had set up Vikas Vidhayala here for women and children.

She was also bestowed with Rashtrapati Award and Jankidevi Bajaj Award by Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation for her outstanding work for the cause of women and children.
