CPI(M) State Committee demands resignation of Chandrasekaran
Chennai, Feb 17 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Committee of the Communist Party of India(Marxist) today demanded the immediate resignation of the State Election Commissioner D Chandrasekaran in the wake of the remarks made against him by the third judge of the Madras High Court yesterday.
In a statement here, CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan said the judge observed that State Election Commission (SEC) had failed to discharge its Constitutional obligations, as it never made any worthwhile attempt to find out whether the civic poll held on October 13 was indeed a free and fair election or a mere charade.
Justice P K Misra, who was nominated as a third judge to hear a batch of petitions afresh, after a split verdict was delivered by a Division Bench, made the above observation while disposing of the petitions.
Mr Varadarajan said the third judge also ordered the repoll for 99 wards.
Mr Chandrasekaran, who failed to discharge his duties, should own moral responsibility and quit the office immediately following the verdict of the Madras High Court, he added.
