Charges to be framed against Abhishek in FERA case on March 20
New Delhi, Feb 17 (UNI) A city court today ordered framing of charges against controversial Delhi businessman Abhishek Verma in a case of FERA violation registered against him for causing loss of foreign exchange worth Rs 10.5 crore to the exchequer.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Kamini Lau fixed March 20 for framing of charges against all the accused.
In an extensive order, the ACMM said there was enough evidence to prosecute Abhishek with other co-accused for the contravention of section 8(3) read with section 18(2) of FERA.
According to the allegations, Abhishek, son of Veena Verma and poet Srikant Verma, both former Congress MPs, was accused of importing worthless floppies to the tune of 12 lakh dollars making payment against it during 1995-96.
The Enforcement Directorate had registered a case against him in 2002 alleging that later he exported goods worth 2 million dollars and did not show receiving of the payment from foreign country.
There are ten complaints of ED pending against Abhishek Verma at the trial stage and it is the second complaint case of ED in which the court has ordered framing of charges against him with the other co-accused.
