BJP seeks disqualification of 10 party MLAS for cross voting

Lucknow, Feb 17 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party today submitted a petition before the Uttar Pradesh assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey to disqualify 10 of its party MLAs for cross-voting during a confidence vote in the house on January 25.

The petition submitted to the assembly secretariat this afternoon says that out of the 10 BJP MLAs, petition against 3 were pending since past five months while six have made public appearance in the Samajwadi Party functions.

BJP state president Keshri Nath Tripathi in the petition has urged the speaker to disqualify these members and not allow them to vote in the trust motion to be moved by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government on February 26 next.

The BJP MLAs against whom the petition was filed for disqualification are Amarjit Singh Jansevek, Mahendra Singh Yadav, Shivendra Singh, Sobran Singh, Chotelal Verma, Ravinder Pundir, Sandeep Agarwal, Shyam Singh Ahirwar, Rajiv Pratap Singh and Chandramani Kant Singh.

On Janauary 25, during the confidence vote of the SP government in the assembly, altogether 17 MLAs cross voted in favour of the ruling coalition in the absence of the opposition. Of these 10 were of BJP, four of BSP and three MLAs of Rashtriya Lok Dal(RLD).

After BJP's move, now BSP and RLD are also likely to file similar petition before the Speaker seeking disqualification of their members who cross voted.
