Vishwanath demands Mr Deve Gowda's resignation over Cauvery issue

Mysore, Feb 16 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former Karnataka Minister H Vishwanath today demanded resignation of former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) National President H D Deve Gowda to tender his resignation to the Lok Sabha and join agitation against final verdict of Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT).

Talking to newsmen here, he said that "Mr Gowda should become a model to other MPs in the State by resigning to the Lok Sabha against CWDT award." Mr Gowda, who had fought for the cause of the Cauvery Water dispute earlier had become silent and had failed to participate in the MPs meeting convened by the Cauvery Hitharakshana Vedike to discuss the burning issue. "It shows Mr Gowda's concern towards farmers interest and the only point he (Mr Gowda) had was saving his Son's government in the State", he alleged.

Mr Vishwanath also alleged that the Coalition government in the State has failed to come out with its clear stand on the final verdict despite statewide protests. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy neither welcomed the Award nor rejected. The silence by the government leads to many doubts in the minds of the people and government may lose confidence of the people.
