Shivratri celebrated with fervour in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Feb 16 (UNI) Thousands of devotees of Lord Shiva thronged temples in the city since early morning to offer prayers and offerings to Lord Shiva to mark the celebration of Maha Shivratri here today.

Celebrated on the 13th or 14th day of the dark half of 'Phalgun' (February-March), Maha Shivratri marks the marriage of Lord Shiva to his consort Parvati.

On the occasion, devotees offered milk to the deity while others made offerings of fruits, flowers and sweets.

They also drank glasses of a traditional drink called 'bhang', which is sold on the streets here every year during this festival.

Spiritual leader and founder of Art of Living Sri Sri Ravi Shankar arrived in the city today to grace the Maha Shivratri function and concluding ceremony of its Silver Jubilee at Sardar Patel stadium.
