Jammu, Feb 16 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said conferring free ownership rights on 16.60 lakh kanals of state land costing Rs 20,000 crore under the Roshni Act to farmers was aimed at bringing a real agricultural revolution in the state.

Addressing a rally of farmers, Mr Azad said the move would usher the state towards the self-sufficiency in agricultural products besides boosting the economy.

He said he has ensured to keep strict provisions in the Act to prevent beneficiaries to re-transfer the land or change its agriculture character.

Since the Roshni Act was passed, thousands of farmers have been regularly gathering the residence of the Chief Minister to laud his endeavours for the welfare of people.

According to all speakers on the occasion, the Act was proving more effective and farmer-friendly. ''It has not only bestowed ownership rights but also enabled farmers to get the social status in the society,'' they said.
