Rane releases water from Tillari irrigation project

Panaji, Feb 16 (UNI) Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane today released water from the left bank main canal of the Rs 841 crore inter-state Tillari irrigation project at Latambareem village of North Goa.

A joint venture with Maharashtra, the project's left bank canal will have a 11.971 hectare command area in Bicholem and Bardez Talukas. Nine distributors and one branch canal were planned under the project at a stretch of 37.425 km in Goa.

Official sources said about 85 per cent of the right bank main canal and 74 per cent of the left bank main canal works had been completed so far.

The right bank canal water, released in December 2001, is catering to drinking water needs through Chandel treatment plant, besides irrigating 790 hectares in Pernem taluk.
