New Delhi, Feb 16: Fasting and prayers by devotees at Shiva temples across Delhi marked the celebration of the Maha Shivratri in the capital today.

Hundreds of 'Shiv Bhakts' (followers of Lord Shiva) thronged temples since early the morning to offer prayers and offerings to Lord Shiva.

While some offered milk to the deity, others made offerings of fruits like bananas, ber, bel and its leaves, flowers and sweets on the occasion.

Police had made adequate security arrangements at various temples around across Delhi.

While many unmarried girls observed fasts today in the hope of finding a perfect husband like Lord Shiva himself, many married women and young men also observed fast.

Celebrated on the 13th or 14th day of the dark half of 'Phalgun' (February-March), Maha Shivratri marks the marriage of Lord Shiva to his consort Parvati.
