Over 16,000 people go missing in K'taka in 2005, '06
Bangalore, Feb 16 (UNI) As many as 16,778 people have been reported missing during the last two years in Karnataka, State Home Minister M P Prakash has informed the Legislative Council.
Replying to a question raised by Congress member H S Shivashankar yesterday, he said in a written reply that of the 16,778, children accounted for 6,895, followed by women 4,941 and men 4,942.
Bangalore Urban district had the dubious distinction of topping the list, with 4,524 children, 2,717 women and 2,643 men going missing, followed by Bangalore Rural district with 333 children, 348 women and 314 men and Mysore with 243 children, 231 women and 254 men.
To another question raised by Congress member L Hanumanthaiah, the Minister said that during the last three years, as many as 14,993 incidents of atrocities against women were registered in the State. In the city, over 3,686 incidents of dowry cases were registered in the last three years, which included 133 deaths.
Besides, another 1,998 cases of unnatural death of women were recorded in the same period.
