Nimbus slapped another notice--this time for 'racial' ads
New Delhi, Feb 16 (UNI) Just two days after being slapped a show cause notice over its refusal to give live feeds of India-Sri lanka ODIs, Nimbus Communications has been served another notice for allegedly showing racist advertisements during India-West Indies One-Day International series last month.
The broadcaster, which runs the Neo Sports channel and is the BCCI rights holder, has to reply to the notice by February 19, a senior official in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting told UNI.
''The Ministry took the action against the channel after it found the ads derogatory and bad in taste,'' he said.
A Nimbus spokesperson speaking over phone from Mumabi told UNI that they would not like to make any comment on the notice since the matter was subjudice.
The notice to Nimbus had been served after a Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Delhi High Court against the allegedly rascist ads.
Besides, several social organisations had protested to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting over the ads one of which said "Its tough being a West Indian in India".
Neo Sports can face a minimum 30-day ban if charges of violating the advertising code are proved.
Earlier, Nimbus faced the Ministry's wrath for refusing to give Prasar Bharati the live feed of cricket One-dayers.
However, under a settlement reached in the Delhi High Court yesterday, Nimbus has been directed to share live telecast - without seven minutes delay with DD and AIR.
