More than 3000 volunteers of Opposition parties join DMK

Chennai, Feb 16 (UNI) More than 3,000 volunteers of the opposition AIADMK, Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK), Desiya Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMDK) and Bhartiya Janata Party today quit their parties and joined the ruling DMK.

The volunteers, from Thousand Light area in the city, called on the DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at Anna Arivalayam, the party headquarters and joined the party by presenting shawls to the leader.

Senior DMK leaders, including General Secretary K Anbazhagan, Treasurer Aroct N Veerasamy, Deputy General Secretary M K Stalin and Organisation Secretary T K S Elangovan were present on the occasion, a party release here said.

Welcoming them, Mr Karunanidhi said for many of them it was a homecoming, and he exhorted them to add strength to the Dravidian movement and spread the ideals of late leaders Periyar E V Ramasamy and C N Annadurai.

They should also launch an awareness campaign and educate the general public not to be hoodwinked by some political party leaders who make tall claims, the DMK Chief said.
