Mahashivratri celebrated in Kashmir with fervour
Srinagar, Feb 16: The Mahashivratri was today celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in the Kashmir valley.
Special prayers were offered at all temples, including the Shankarachariya, overlooking the Dal Lake and Hanuman Mandir near here.
Devotees, particuarly Kashmiri pandits who had not migrated, were seen standing in long queues since early this morning in the temple premises to perform pooja by offering milk and flowers to the God.
This is the most important festival for the Kashmiri pandits.
Muslims were also seen greeting their Kashmiri brethern on the occasion.
The authorities had made adequate arrangments for the festival.
Special sale centres were set up at different places in the city and other areas by the fisheries department where trout fish on concessional rates was being sold.
