Maha Shivaratri celebrated in Bihar
Patna, Feb 16 (UNI) 'Maha-Shivaratri' was celebrateted in Bihar with religious fervour when thousands of devotees thronged temples across the state since early morning to offer their obeisance to Lord Shiva.
With chanting of stutis (hymns), devotees made offerings of milk, fruits, 'bel' leaves, flowers and sweets to the Lord Shiva at the temples all over the state.
Many people observed fast and participated in religious discourse on the occasion.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and tourism minister Nand Kisore Yadav offered their obeisance to Lord Shiva at Baikatpur temple, about 30 Kms away from here.
Reports of celebration of Maha-Shivratri had also been received from other parts of the state.
Many unmarried girls observed fast today for a perfect husband like Lord Shiva while several married women and young men also observed fast for prosperity of their families.
Celebrated on the 13th or 14th day of the dark half of 'Phalgun' (February-March), Maha Shivratri marks the marriage of Lord Shiva to his consort Parvati.
