K'taka Govt restores admission criterion for non-resident Kannadigas

Udupi, Karnataka, Feb 16 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has decided to restore the existing criterion for allotment of medical and engineering college seats to non-resident Kannadiga students, Medical Education Minister Dr V S Acharya said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he clarified that the clause of any one of the parent should be a Kannadiga for allotment of seat in Karnataka had been restored without the proposed change of both parents should be Kannadigas.

Dr Acharya said that out of the six proposed new Government medical colleges, three have started functioning in Mandya, Hassan and Belgaum. All arrangements have been made for starting the remaining three in Shimoga, Bidar and Raichur from the next academic year.

He said a new Government nursing and dental college would be set up in Bellary during 2007-08 in addition to the nursing colleges started in Hassan and Holenarasipur this year. Efforts were being made to set up a Nature Cure Centre in the Government Ayurvedic College in Mysore, celebrating its centenary year.
