JMM stages demonstration demanding grants for colleges
Jamshedpur, Feb 16(UNI) Jharkhand Mukti Morcha(JMM) activists has staged a demonstration, in front of the East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner's office here, demanding grants for colleges in the state.
JMM sources said the colleges has reportedly not received any financial aid after the state's bifurcation from Bihar.
In a letter submitted to Chief Minister Madhu Koda, through Deputy Commissioner Nitin Madan Kulkarni, Dr Firdausi pointed out that the state government's recent decision to provide financial grants and permanent affiliation only to 18 colleges in the state, which had fulfilled the criterion mentioned in the new rules, would badly affect the other 88 colleges.
He apprehended that such steps would jeopardise the future of thousands of teachers in various colleges.
Dr Firdausi also suggested that the new rules and regulations should be kept at bay for at least three to five years to fulfil the requirements of the majority of the colleges and during that period they should also be provided financial aid.
The JMM leader also alleged that the government had failed to utilise Rs 10 crore grant alloted by the Centre.
