J&K CJ seek lawyers cooperation for early disposal of cases

Srinagar, Feb 16 (UNI) Seeking the cooperation of lawyers in strengthening the judicial institutions, of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Bashir Ahmed Khan said lawyers formed an essential component in the administration of Justice.

He called upon the judges, judicial officers and the lawyers to be prompt in the disposal of cases lying in the courts.

He said the lawyers and judges have equal responsibility in the dispensation of justice, adding that they have to find out solutions of most critical and complicated issues confronting the society.

Speaking at a function after he laid the foundation stone of Additional block of High Court and Lawyers chamber in the High Court complex he said it was his endeavor to restore dignity and authority of the judiciary in the state.

He said by conducting Lok Adalats, justice was provided to the people at their doorsteps.here today.

The additional block and lawyers chamber was being constructed at a cost of Rs 4.27 crore while the lawyers' chamber would cost Rs 5.98 crore.

Justice Khan while expressing gratitude to the government for its timely release of funds for building up infrastructure in courts said Rs one crore for the construction of lawyers chamber has already been released while another Rs one crore is in the pipeline.

He said that Rs 35 crore have also been earmarked for construction of district court complex at Srinagar.

Justice Khan said to modernise the courts to make them role model for other states is his priority.

President Bar Association Main Abdul Qayoum also spoke on the occasion.
