Hisar, Feb 16 (UNI) Dr Ashok Garg, a former eye surgeon for the President, has become the first Indian opthalmologist to get his name entered in the Guinness Book of World Records for authoring maximum number of books in the field last year.

Dr Garg, who recently got the Guinness' communication accepting his claim, told UNI today that he had written 12 books on opthalmology in 2006 with world-wide distribution to enter the first opthalmology record in the Guinness Book and the Limca Book of Records.

''We are happy to inform you that we have accepted this as an world record in speciality area and you have been given membership no. 164419 with claim ID 182119'', said the letter signed by Andrea Banshi on behalf of the Guinness Records Management team in London.

Dr Garg, who has written 31 books on various diseases of the eye, which are widely read in India and abroad, is an active international member of prestigious American Academy of Opthalmology including AAO, ASCRS, ESCRS, ESO, IAAO and AIOS.

He was the honorary eye surgeon for the President in 1991-1993. He was also invited to Ophthalmology Congress as Co-chairman and Key note Speaker in scientific sessions last year.

Expressing his concern over the increasing heat, dust and pollution posing a major hazard for the eyes, specially the cornea, Dr Garg advised people to wear sun glasses in summer protective plain glasses in shade.

Stressing that the incidence of ''Computer Vision Syndrome'' (CVS) was on the increase, Dr Garg said people continuously working on computers should be extra careful and make a habit of intermittent blinking to avoid the dryness in the eyes.

To check the dryness artificial tear drops can be used once or twice a day and the anti-glare screen must be used.
