Devotees of Lord Shiva throng city temples

Mumbai, Feb 16 (UNI) Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was among the devotees of lord Shiva who, thronged the temples across the metropolis to offer prayers on Mahashivrati today.

Amitabh performed pooja at the famous Babulnath Temple in south Mumbai here this morning.

Devotees were seen standing in the long queues since last midnight at Shiva temples in the city to perform pooja by offering milk and flowers to the God.

Special arrangments were made by the temple trustees to enable devotees to perform pooja systematically due to heavy crowd.

At the most famous and over 100-year old Lord Shiva temple at Ambernath in adjoining district about 50km from here, people from city and adjoining districts made a bee line from 2300 hours last night to get the first darshan and perform pooja as soon as it opened at 0000 hours.

Temple priest, Ashok Patil said every-year more than two lakh devotees come here to take blessing of the God.

Police have made elaborate security arrangements at all the temples in Mumbai and its adjoining districts to tackle any eventuality, police sources said.
