Cauvery: Poojary asks PM to convene CMs' meeting
Mangalore, Feb 16 (UNI) Rajya Sabha member and former Union Minister B Janardhana Poojary today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to soon convene a meeting of the Chief Ministers of the Cauvery riparian States to solve the water dispute amicably.
Addressing a press conference here, he pointed out that no State was satisfied with the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. The farmers of Karnataka were deeply hurt by the verdict.
Complimenting the people of the State for maintaining peace in the wake of the award, the Congress leader asked the State Government to soon file a review petition before the Tribunal. The Union Government should also resist from issuing a gazette notification of the order, he said.
Mr Poojary said all MPs from the State, irrespective of their party affiliation, would fight for justice on the issue and raise the issue in the coming Parliament session.
He said he would take a delegation of all MPs from the State to both the Prime Minister and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to discuss the issue.
