Bus burning case: Police personnel bag honours

Salem (Tamil Nadu), Feb 16: The investigators in the sensational Dharmapuri Bus burning case have been recommended for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's medals besides promotion for their commendable work in the case, according to CB-CID DIG S Rajendran.

Speaking to the press outside the court, Mr Rajendran said seven senior police officials were recommended for CM's medals. They were DSPs P K Periasamy, A Periasamy, Krishna Raj, Inspectors Rajapandi, Thambidurai, Maadhiyan and Bhoopalan.

Besides, six constables, Muthuvel, Ramesh Kumar, Kumaravelan, Sarbutheen, Rajan and Gunasekaran, had been recommended for promotion as Sub-Inspectors (SIs), he added.

Three girls students of the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU) were charred to death when their bus was set on fire in Dharmapuri District on February two, 2000 by a mob in the aftermath of the conviction of Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the Pleasant Stay Hotel Case.

The First Additional District Sessions Court here today sentenced three main accused, all AIADMK partymen, in the case to death while 25 others were handed over rigorous imprisonment. They were also asked to pay fines.
