Ambareesh stands up for Kannadigas cause?!!

Bangalore, Feb 17: The Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's verdict has only awarded Karnataka discontentment. The verdict on Cauvery water sharing between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu has enraged Kannadigas, who are ever since protesting against it.

M H AmbareeshThe protest received a boost when actor-turned-politician, M H Ambareesh, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, submitted his resignation from the Union Cabinet and as a Member of Parliament opposing the Cauvery Tribunal's verdict.

As per the content of Mr. Ambareesh's resignation letter, which was addressed to Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, the Minister of State expresses 'sense of deep sadness' to resign from his post. But in the backdrop of Cauvery issue, he says he was left with no option but to take the extreme step of submitting his resignation.

However, the exact reason for M H Ambareesh's resignation is not mentioned in the letter and this leaves people, media and the political parties speculating.

As per the actor's fans, Ambareesh's resignation is in opposition to the Cauvery verdict, whereas other political parties, especially JD(U), believe his resignation is only a means for Congress to enhance its image thereby strengthening the party base in the state.

It was later learnt that the Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, did not accept M H Ambareesh's resignation as it was "not in an acceptable form." As per the norms, a MP's resignation should be addressed to the Speaker and not to the respective party president.
