A cloth merchant cheated to the tune of Rs 29.44 lakh

Mumbai, Feb 16: A cloth merchant was cheated to the tune of Rs 22.44 lakh by his employee at Vithoda Lane, Kalbadevi in south Mumbai.

Police today said that the accused Raju Kalidin Singh (28) was working with the complainant Vasantkumar Devkishan Daga (49), owner of the Brandbari Spinning and Weaving Mill limited for the last six years.

Between September 14, 2006 and February 13, this year, Singh and his two associates--Khomra Singh (28) and Amirdar Singh (30) had recovered Rs 29,44,910 from another businessman where cloth was being supplied by the company.

Instead of depositing the amount in company's account, he had utilised money for personal work and against that he had given 10 cheques of different banks to the complainant. However the cheques, when deposited in the respective banks, were bounced.

Finally, yesterday Daga lodged a cheating complaint with L T marg police and further investigation is in progress.
