TN not destination of LTTE boats: asserts DGP

Chennai, Feb 14 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) T Mukherjee today ruled out the possibility of LTTE ''targetting the state as the destination for its boats, referring to a foreign vessel which was rounded up 27 nautical miles from the coast at Kodiyakarai by Indian Coast Guard.

Addressing a press conference here after reviewing security arrangements in the coastal area along with the police officials of the respective districts, he said the vessel had come near the territorial waters only to avoid the Sri Lankan army and the navy.

''It is also learnt that neither the crew nor the articles were meant for Tamil Nadu'' , he said.

The Indian Coast Guard had yesterday rounded up the foreign vessel with a huge cache of arms and ammunition and arrested five persons, including three Sri Lankan nationals, suspected to be LTTE militants.
