TN enters into agreement with Goodearth Maritime

Chennai, Feb 15 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today entered into an agreement with a private firm, Goodearth Maritime Limited (GML), to construct a worldclass ship building facility near Cuddalore with a total investment of Rs 1,000 crore.

The MoU was signed between Goodearth Ship Building Private Ltd (GSBPL), a subsidiary of GML, and the Tamil Nadu Maritime Board in the presence of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the Secretariat here.

A sum of Rs 500 crore would be invested in the initial phase and the project was expected to be completed in three years, a statement here said.

About 5,000 people would be directly employed and about 20,000 people would gain indirect employment, it added.

State Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy, Highways and Port Minister 'Vellakovil' Saminathan, Chief Secretary L K Tripathy, GSBPL Chairman P B Anandan and representatives of Korea Maritime Consultants company were among those present on the occasion.
