Hyderabad, Feb 15 (UNI) Members of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) present in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly were suspended for the day today.

TDP and CPI(M) members, including CPI(M) floor leader Nomula Narasimhaiah, were suspended for stalling the proceedings of the House even after Speaker K R Suresh Reddy assured the agitated MLAs that he would examine the issue of the alleged humiliation of a CPI(M) legislator by police personnel.

Earlier, BJP floor leader G Kishen Reddy and another BJP member P Dora Babu were suspended for the day when they stalled the proceedings in protest against the non-release of scholarships for students belonging to the weaker sections. Later as repeated appeals to TDP and CPI-M members to resume their seats fell on deaf ears, the Speaker named them after which Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah moved the motion for their suspension.

When the members refused to leave, the Speaker called the marshals to lift the slogan-shouting members out of the House.

During zero hour, CPI(M) legislator S Rajaiah complained that he was insulted by police and his party workers were ill-treated even after the party had secured permission for staging a dharna near Indira Park.

Home Minister K Jana Reddy assured that he would order a probe into the conduct of the police officials concerned and take action if found guilty.

Mr Reddy also informed the House that he had directed the police personnel concerned to release the detained Marxist workers and allow them to peacefully hold dharna.

Dissatisfied with the Minister's reply, the opposition party members stalled the proceedings for some time before Speaker adjourned the House for tea break.

When the House resumed, CPI floor leader Ch Venkata Reddy, AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and TRS floor leader G Vijaya Rama Rao also expressed their resentment over the alleged irresponsible behaviour of the police towards an elected representative Demanding the Speaker ensure that due respect was provided to them, they registered their parties' strong protest over the incident.
