Seven killed, 3 injured in road accident in Sikkim
Gangtok, Feb 15 (UNI) As many as seven people were killed and three injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a 200 feet ravine near Kamrang college, 80 km from here.
The dead included six men and a woman. Two men and one woman suffered injuries in the accident that occurred last evening, DIG Range Askhaya Sachdeva said here today.
The vehicle was on its way from Namchi to Wok when the accident occurred. Six of the seven victims died on the spot. Another died in the Namchi District Headquarters hospital.
The injured, including the driver, were admitted to the Namchi hospital last night. The driver was later shifted to STNM hospital here. Two other passengers were rushed to a Siliguri hospital today.
Though the exact cause of the accident was not yet known, over speeding and bad weather was suspected to be the cause, Mr Sachdeva said.
He said after getting information about the accident a police team from Namchi, along with the Fire Brigrade personnel, launched a rescue operation and recovered the bodies by midnight.
Postmorterm of the bodies was done at the Namchi hospital. The bodies were handed over to the relatives.
A case has been registered against the driver, the DIG said.
