Rural Tripura gets new roads under Bharat Nirman

Agartala, Feb 15: The Union Government has released Rs 51.220 crore of the total granted amount of Rs 165.904 crore for completion of construction work of 101 new roads in the rural parts of Tripura as part of Bharat Nirman Project.

An official release here today said, ''Bharat Nirman is adding a new dimension to the rural life in this landlocked state where 2,402.12 kms of motorable roads are being constructed under this project. Of the 676 new roads that would be constructed, 177 are in the remote areas of the state.'' Before the project started, 69 panchayats of the state did not have proper motorable roads, but now the scenario was improving.

The existing road infrastructure was also being revamped with central aids and the Bharat Nirman project would provide road connectivity to 743 inaccessible villages in this hilly state, surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides.

The release said that the implementation of Prime Minister's Gramin Sadak Yojna had also brought smiles on the faces of rural masses. According to sources, nearly 7000 kms of roads would be constructed in the state under this project and the lion's share would go to Dhalai District of the state, release stated.

It may be mentioned here that a five-day-long Bharat Nirman Dhalai Utsav began from yesterday at Kulai.
