Restore tax benefits u/s 80G to cooperative banks: CPI(M)

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) CPI(M) senior leader Basudeb Acharya today led a delegation of representatives of cooperative banks to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to demand restoration of tax benefits under section 80G.

Dr Singh assured the delegation that he would talk to Finance Minster in this regard, Mr Acharya told UNI after the meeting, which was attended by representatives of Forum of Karnataka Cooperatives.

The CPI(M) leader, who is the party floor leader in the Lok Sabha said the issue was raised many a time in the House.

He said every state had pleaded for restoration of the benefits under section 80G to coopeartive banks, which was withdrawn in the last Budget.

According to section 80G, assessee is eligible for tax deductions in respect of donations to certain funds and charitable institutions.
