Record liquor haul during elections in Punjab

Chandigarh, Feb 15 (UNI) Punjab Police has made a record recovery of 49,984 litres of liquor from various parts of the state during the Assembly elections.

The liquor, which includes 7422 litres of illicit liquor, was recovered from stores and while being transported to lure the voters, a spokesman of the state police said.

The spokesman said 11,782 Kg Lahan was also recovered from various places during the elections.

The maximum quantity of 2290 Kg lahan was recovered in Amritsar district. Similarly, 1653 litres of illicit liquor was made in Ropar, the maximum in the state and 12982 litres licit liquor recovered in Barnala district.

The spokesman further said specific directions were given to officers in the field to check the movement and distribution of liquor.
