PHDCCI submits pre-budget memorandum to HP Government

Shimla, Feb 15 (UNI) PHD Chamber of Commarce and Industry today demanded a general rate of VAT and widening of the base of taxable commodities in Himachal Pradesh.

In a pre-budget memomrandum sumbitted to the state government, the Chamber suggested that the general rate of VAT should converge at not more than eight per cent, base of taxable commodities should be widened under VAT regime and Tax Information Exchange system be set up by the next fiscal year.

Asisstent Regional Director PHDCCI, Yeshvinder Singh said the demand was also made for special allocation of funds to set-up sustainable industrial townships and to develop industrial clusters and parks.

The PHDCCI also demanded rail connectivity to industrial hubs specially a Chandigarh-Pinjore-Bartwala-Baddi-Nalagarh-Dhobata-Ropar Rail Link.

The Chamber suggested development of agro-business related infrastructure to harness the potential of the state, stressing for setting up of pre-chilling plants in fruit growing areas, provisions for reefer fans for transporting pre-cooled and packed fruits to cold storage and opening up of Agriculture-Techno Institutes.

The need for more airports and expansion of present airports to boost the industry and commerce activity in the state, was also stressed.

It also expressed concern about the large unskilled manpower, noting that there was a need to develop human resource by earmarking funds for training infrastucture.

The PHDCCI also advised that special funds be sought from the Centre to preserve the fragile ecosystem, the loss of revenue and for expansion of the forest cover.
