NSUI calls for 12 hours Tripura bandh
Agartala, Feb 15 (UNI) Tripura NSUI, students wing of the Congress, has called for a 12-hour state wide bandh on February 19 to protest the alleged police atrocities and in support of its charter of demands.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) called for the bandh in protest against the police attacks and demanded a statement from Chief Minister Manik Sarkar over the malpractices done in issuing appointment letters to the unemployed people in education department.
According to police, about 50 personnels, including West Agartala police station officer-in-charge Harimohan Das, were injured following pelting of stones by the NSUI activists while submitting a charter of demands to the state secretary today.
The incident occurred when security personnel erected barricades to stop demonstrating activists.
The NSUI also claimed that more than 150 members were also injured during the police attacks.
The NSUI has described today's incident as ''barbaric'' and a black day for the democracy in this CPI(M) ruled state.
