NSCN(IM) cadre surrenders in Arunachal

Itanagar, Feb 15 (UNI) A NSCN (IM) cadre has surrendered before the district administration at Khonsa in Arunachal's Tirap district.

Mr Litwang Ruttum, a cadre of the outfit, laid down his arms yesterday before Tirap Deputy Commissioner (DC) Talem Tapok at the 23 Assam Rifles at Khonsa, official sources informed here today.

The insurgent, who was duped by his friends in joining the organisation, was soon disillusioned and decided to join the mainstream, sources informed.

Complimenting the Assam Rifles for their efforts to combat terrorism, the Mr Tapok said speedy rehabilitation of the youth would further motivate others to join the mainstream.

He assured that the Civil Administration would initiate the process for offering rehabilitation packages equivalent to the Central Government for the surrenderees, both from the resources of the state government and Department for the Development of Tirap and Changlang districts (DOTC).

The DC further appreciated the Assam Rifles for undertaking extensive psychological operations in the district which has resulted in the surrender.

He said winning over the people was the most essential part of maintaining peace, harmony and progress in the district, sources added.
