No cut in bus fare in K'taka: Minister

Bangalore, Feb 15 (UNI) There is no proposal before the Karnataka Government to effect a cut in the bus fare following reduction in diesel price, State Transport Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy informed the Legislative Council today.

Replying to a question raised by Congress member Prakash Rathod, the Minister, in a written reply, said that eventhough there was a marginal reduction in diesel price, the prices of all other components were increasing. The financial burden of the State-run transport corporations have also increased by enhanced Dearness Allowance rates payable to employees.

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) proposed to add 895 new buses and construct eight new depots and seven new bus stations. The other State-owned transport corporations also planned to upgrade their fleet strength, he said.
