Let Universities be autonomous to decide pay structure: Krishna
Nagpur, Feb 15 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna has called for granting autonomy to the Universities as far as deciding pay structures for teachers was concerned.
He was speaking yesterday at the inaugural function of Avishkar-2007, state-level inter-University research festival hosted by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU).
After inaugurating the research festival, Mr Krishna said many of the technical institutions were facing a dearth of good teachers who had sound knowledge of their respective fields. This is because the private sector is offering higher pay packets and the Universities lag behind due to certain lacunae in the Government system.
''I had suggested to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh that the University Grants Commission should wake up to the harsh realities of today and fix teachers' pay packets at par with the private sector,'' he said.
Earlier, RTMNU Vice Chancellor Dr S N Pathan gave his introductory remarks.
Later, the Governor paid a visit to the Art Gallery of South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC).
