Left unity over industrialisation to be strengthened:Biman Basu

Kolkata, Feb 15 (UNI) Denying that a division existed within the ruling coalition over industrialisation, Left Front Chairman Biman Basu today said the Front was united and the unity would be further strengthened in near future.

'' The Front is one and undivided. The foundation of our unity is solid and it will be further strengthened. If any difference crops up within ourselves, we shall sort it out through discussions,'' he said while addressing a sit-in, organised by the Kolkata CPI (M) district committee in support of industrialisation and development of the state.

He said the Front would embark on a massive campaign in support of industry and development to reach out ''every common man in every ward'' with the government's industrial policy.

Commenting on the scepticism of the opposition parties over sincerity of the Left Front government towards industrialisation particularly when the spurt came about 30 years after the coalition came to power, Mr Basu said the process started during the time of former Chief Minister Jyoti Basu and the state had received investments worth Rs 29,195 crore for 1218 industrial units between 1991 and 2005.

''They should know that the priority of the Left Front government, when it came to power in 1977 was primarily on maintaining the law and order, revival of cooperative banks and small scale industries, containing the food crisis and establish the people's democratic rights in the state,'' he said.

'' We did not deny what former Chief Minister B C Roy had done for the state, but he could not give a proper shape to his ventures which Mr Jyoti Basu has done,'' he said.

Criticising the Congress for obstructing the move of industrialisation, Mr Basu said the party had never wanted industry to come up in the state.
