JK: More cooperatives to help farmers

Srinagar, Feb 15: Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to setup cooperative societies to provide chemical fertilizers to farmers in the state.

Minister for Agriculture and Co-operatives Abdul Aziz Zargar said presently, 18 such societies were functioning in the state and more such societies were being set up under the JAKFED.

He underlined the need for monitoring the supply of various fertilizers on weekly basis so that sufficient quantity of chemical fertilizers has made available to farming community.

Reviewing the stock and supply position of various fertilizers available in the state, Mr Zargar had called for encouraging Primary Co-operative Societies.

Mr Zargar said that with a view to facilitate the farmers and Agriculturists, JAKFED, Agro and other Co-operative societies were providing fertilizers to them through various sale outlets spread in the state.

The meeting was informed that during current Rabbi season 14300 metric tones (Mts) of urea, 26524 MTs of DAP, 1099 MTs of MOP and 2037 MTs were provided to the farmers by the end of last month.
