Incidence of Meningococcal infection less compared to last year: MCD
New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) The incidence of meningococcal infection in Delhi this year is less compared to last year, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi today said.
Municipal Health Officer, N K Yadav told reporters that there was no cause of panic as the situation with regard to disease was fully under control.
Dr Yadav said that during this transmission season i.e. w.e.f.
November last year, 49 confirmed cases of meningococcal diseases had been reported out of which six died.
He said that though the number of cases are much less compared to last year, the persons suffering from following symptoms should immediately report to nearby hospital for treatment as delay in seeking treatment may be fatal.
Dr Yadav said meningococcal disease is an acute bacterial disease caused by the meningococcus (Neisseria meningitidis) and manifested by sudden onset of fever, severe headache, nausea and vomiting, stiff neck and frequently bluish/purplish rash/ patches on skin and may be accompanied by delirium and coma.
The disease is endemic in Delhi and it occurs mainly during winter and spring season.
Dr Yadav said there was no cause of panic as the disease is curable, if treated on time. The diagnostic and treatment facilities are available in all the hospitals of MCD, Delhi Government and Central Government Hospitals.
