IICT Director gets Outstanding Achievement(R

Hyderabad, Feb 15 (UNI) Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad (IICT), Director J Yadav has been presented the prestigious Pharma-Bio Award 2007 for is quality research and successful achievements.

''Outstanding Achievement Award for Research&Development by an institute'', was conferred to Dr Yadav by the CHEMTECH foundation at Mumbai, an IICT release here said today.

As Director, Dr Yadav had expanded research facilities and R&D work through sponsored R&D, grant-in-aid R&D, collaborative co-operative R&D, R&D Consultancy and technical services. Under his leadership and foresight, IICT was delivering services needed most by the pharma industry.

Dr Yadav was honoured for creating new R&D facilities by installing nuclear magnetic resonance for Rs five crore and biotechnology, pre-incubator for Rs two crore.

He focused on new areas for R&D including genomics, genetic chemistry and biotechnology for new drug development and novel drug delivery systems. He was involved with setting up a ''Centre for Chemical Genomic for Drug Development'' with investment of about Rs 150 crore by 2007. The first such venture in the country would cover the process of identification to the final stage of drug development.

''Under his able guidance, IICT continues to provide contract R&D and custom synthesis services to international companies like Glaxo Smith Kline, UK, Dupont, US. Confluent Surgical, US, Evolva, Switzerland, Asian Cosmos R&D Co. Japan and others, It is also engaged with several Pharma Companies for herbal compositions to treat gastric ulcers, diabetes and cancer'', the award citation said.
