Hexagon Nutrition forays into South launching 'Kal Tame'

Chennai, Feb 15 (UNI) Hexagon Nutrition Pvt Ltd today made a foray into South Indian market with the launch of 'Kal Tame,' a zero calorie sugar substitute made from sucralose.

Addressing a press conference here, company Managing Director Arul Kelkar said the product was initially launched in Maharashtra, Goa and Delhi and was currently in expansion phase in the South, particularly at Chennai and Bangalore.

Kal Tame, backed by USFDA guidelines, was safe for the entire family, including children below six years of age or children born with rare congenital anomalies.

Sucralose-based preparation was heat and cold stable, thus ideal for making desserts. Being natural in origin, it was not metabolised and therefore contributed no calorie, he said.

Further, sucralose was recognised neither as sugar nor as carbohydrate by the body and, therefore, had no side effects on short or long-term glucose control, he added.

Mr Kelkar said the product, which had a shelf life of 24 months, was currently being retailed in three different packs. While a jar of Kal Tame was priced at Rs 99, a blister pack containing 120 pellets cost Rs 59 and a box with 100 sachets was priced at Rs 69.

Stating that the total market for low calorie sweetener was approximately Rs 107 crore and was poised to grow exponentially, he said the company had so far made an investment of over Rs five crore on the brand and was aiming to emerge as a leader in the category.

The company is under 100 per cent technical collaboration with New Zealand-based Hexagon Group.
