HC asks minister to appear in contempt case on Feb 26

Kochi, Feb 15 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today dispensed with for the day the appearance of State Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammedkutty in a contempt of court case.

However, he would have to appear before the court on February 26.

The court comprising of acting Chief Justice K S Radhakrishnan and Justice M N Krishnan took suo motu contempt against the minister for his 'denigrating comments,' while addressing a meeting at a function of the Calicut University employees union on January 30.

The court also initiated contempt proceedings against the four newspapers who printed and published the comments of the Minister.

The editors of the newspaper today appeared in the court and their appearance in future was dispensed with by the court in future.

The Minister filed a petition for dispensing with his personal appearance, as he had to attend to official duties. His presence at Thiruvananthapuram was necessary today.

The court allowed this plea.
