Five persons arrested for cricket-betting
Rajkot, Feb 15 (UNI) The Quick Response Cell (QRC) squad arrested five persons from the city for allegedly taking bets for a One-day International cricket match between South Africa and Pakistan at Johannesburg last night.
Acting on a tip off, the QRC squad raided a house at Gayakwadi area here and arrested five persons, police said.
A computer, eleven cell phones, cash Rs 5,000 and slips, used for the bet were seized from them.
The accused were identified as Chandulal the owner of the house Chandulal Ahuja, Chandrakant Bhimjiayni, Sachin Narendra, Jagdish Chandrana and Prakash Morzaria, police said.
However, the main accused, Deepak Chandarana, who was allegedly running the network for cricket betting, has not yet been arrested.
At the time of raid, the kingpin Deepak was not in the house, police said.
Earlier, he was arrested twice for running the racket they added.
