Enough food in Hinachal despite snow: govt

Shimla, Feb 15 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government today said enough food items were available for the commonman in the mountainous state despite the prevailing snowy weather.

Chief Seceretary S S Parmar today said the state had sufficient food articles and essential commodities even in remote regions, to cope with rough weather conditions.

He said that officers of Food, Civil Supplies, Department of Cooperative and H.P. State Civil Supplies Corporation have been asked to ensure the lifting and distribution of controlled commodities under the Public Distribution System as well as in the open market.

To counter the apprehension of price hike due to the inclement weather, the government also reviewed the prices of various commodities especially pulses, wheat products, onion, potato and edible oils and directed the officers of the Department to regulate the prices under the Essential Commodities Act.

The traders have been directed to display the prices of major items, he added.
