Dara Singh moves bail application in SC

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) Death row inmate Dara Singh, convicted in the murder of Australian Missionary Graham Staines and his two young sons, today moved a bail application in the Supreme Court.

Dara Singh is facing death sentence for burning alive Graham Staines and his sons in Orissa for promoting conversion in the state.

Staines along with his wife and two sons were involved in the service of humanity among tribals of the state, living below poverty line.

The victims were burnt alive when the jeep in which they were travelling was set afire.

Dara Singh, Bajrang Dal activist, has sought bail on the ground that his appeal against the death sentence has been pending in this court for the last two years and no progress made.

He has also stated in his bail application that his aged mother who lost her eyesight was seriously ill and had no one to look after.

The wife of Graham Staines has already left India and forgiven Dara Singh.

Graham Staines has his two sons were murdered on January 22, 1999 at village Manoharpur in Keonjhar district of Orissa and the High Court had confirmed the death sentence against Dara Singh on September 22, 2003.
