Army's Corps of Signals Celebrate Corps Day

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) Information Warriors of the the Corps of Signals celebrate today their 96th Corps Day with a renewed commitment to 'convergence' -- the seamless integration and consolidation of the plethora of existing networks of the Indian Army.

The Corps of Signals has progressed by leaps and bounds since its inception and has always kept pace with the modern-day cutting edge and emerging technologies to ensure electronic and information superiority and security for the Indian Army.

The Corps has ushered in Networks in the role of being a catalyst for the Indian Army's march towards Network Centric Warfare. It now plans to consolidate the networks so as to create a robust, flexible, survivable and state-of-art info-structure to meet the challenges of transition.

With diligence, foresight and sheer perseverance, today the Corps of Signals is poised at a very important juncture. A number of projects -- which include Army Wide Area Network (AWAN), ASCON Phase 3, Large VSAT and the Mobile Cellular Communication System (MCCS) -- have been commissioned in the recent past.

The credit for doing yeoman service in establishing and manning the state-of-art info-structure in extremely harsh, inhospitable and challenging weather and terrain conditions goes to the young and brave officers, JCOs and men.

According to an official spokesperson here, the pace of change of technology and the resultant future Information Warfare scenario has necessitated that both doctrines and concepts remain highly dynamic.

The Corps of Signals is today involved in the challenging task of seamless integration and consolidation of the plethora of existing networks of the Indian Army. World over ''convergence'' is the key towards next generation networks -- and it is towards this that the Corps is collectively striding forward in this 'Year of Consolidation'.

This challenge to establish a 'network of networks' is the Key Result Area of the Corps of Signals, the spokesperson said.

Sportsmen of the Corps have achieved distinction in athletics, aquatics, basketball, hockey, football, boxing, taekwondo and kalaripayattu at the National and International levels. Besides, the Army Aero Nodal Centre (AANC) at Mhow has been in the forefront of the Corps adventure activities.

On the occasion of the Corps Day today, Lieutenant General SP Sree Kumar, Signal Officer-in-Chief and Colonel Commandant, laid a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti here as a tribute to the martyrs.
