AP House thanks Governor after marathon reply by CM

Hyderabad, Feb 15 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly today adopted the motion of thanks to the Governor after witnessing stormy scenes which led to suspension of the main opposition TDP, CPI(M) and BJP members from the House.

In a marathon reply, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy reiterated his Government's resolve to find a permament place in the people's hearts by implementing welfare programme ignoring opposition criticism for criticism sake.

''My government will create history by going ahead with the massive irrigation initiative overcoming all hurdles'', he said adding that it would ensure reservation for Muslims in government jobs and educational institutions well before the beginning of the new academic year.

Unlike the previous TDP Government, which was more concerned about publicity and pushed the state into debt, the Congress rule would complete all irrigation projects, promote industrial development through proactive policies and implement welfare programmes to ameliorate the condition of the poor, he added.

Earlier in the day, 19 TDP and seven CPI(M) members were suspended for the day for disrupting the proceedings of the House in protest against the alleged humiliation of a CPI(M) legislator S Rajaiah, who had come with his followers to stage a dharna in the state capital to press for early implemention of the Dummagudem irrigation project.

BJP Floor leader G Kishan Reddy and his colleague P Dora Babu were suspended during the question hour when they stalled proceedings over the issue of scholarships to students of the weaker sections.

The House also witnessed a walkout by the TDP and CPI(M) over the alleged failure of the State Government to provide essential commodities to all ration card holders through PDS outlets.

As soon the House assembled, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed notices of adjournment motions by various parties including TDP and CPI(M).
